History

History

Crocus Hill Capital LLC is a Minneapolis based investment management firm founded by Dan Hayes in 2007. Dan has over a decade of experience in the financial markets working for some of the top firms on Wall Street including Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Merrill Lynch, and Northwestern Mutual Investment Services. It was during his formative years as a Financial Advisor that he began to hone his trading skills, risk management rules and investment style. He took his practice private in the Spring of 2007 and has been trading for select high-net worth clientele ever since. Crocus Hill Capital manages separate accounts (both taxable and retirement) for accredited investors and Institutions. This structure gives clients access to a hedge fund like strategy while maintaining 100% control of their accounts.

How We Work

How We Work

Our primary focus is in risk management first, market returns second. With this in mind, asset protection is the key to asset growth. At Crocus Hill Capital, cash is considered a position. We never force ourselves into the market, we believe we are better served by allowing the market come to us and setting us up for high probability trades. When we do enter markets it could be anywhere from 5% to over 100% of net investable assets depending on the overall market conditions and the length of time we are in our positions.

We trade both to the long and short side. We are not sensitive to the fact if the market is acting bullish or bearish, we want to be on the right side of the trade. Our typical holding periods are from intraday to three months or more depending on how the position is working---if the position is moving in our favor we will allow it to run, if it stops running or turns against, our rules based system will take us out of the trade. All losses are defined and managed before any trades are entered.

Using both fundamental and technical analysis (leaning toward technical for trade entry and exit points) we are looking for stocks with above average beta and that we believe are set to move in the very near future. In other words, we do not buy a stock based on the stocks fundamentals alone and hope that it moves based on our liking it----rather, we buy stocks with strong fundamentals and have the technical potential to break out in the very near future. We want our stocks to move. If they do not, we will get out of the trade and look for a stronger position to be in.

Adaptation is another key to our trading program. As markets are continuously morphing and changing, we are aware that no one system is the holy grail. We constantly monitor how our systems are working and will refine or rebuild them in some cases depending on the markets current trading conditions and outlook. Again, we look for high probability trades, trade with discipline and look to work through the inevitable market cycles.
